William Monroe Gold    1843-1910


William Monroe Gold, from whom the members of the Kentucky Branch are descended was born in Cleveland County, (formerly part of Rutherford Co., N.C.) on Feb. 27, 1843 to William Moore Gold (Feb. 22, 1800 - Oct 7, 1862) & Catherine Washburn Gold (b. Aug 5, 1816). He was a grandson of Daniel Gold who came to Rutherford County from Mecklinburg County, Va. about 1798. At age 18, W. Monroe volunteered in the Confederate Army and served throught the war. After returning home from the conflict, he left Cleveland County in the Autumn of 1865 and went to Kentucky, settling in Marshall County. He died April 10, 1910. Married July 10, 1869 Jeanette Adeline (Dec. 9, 1851- Oct. 6, 1899), daughter of Sanford A. Wolfe, a North Carolinian who had previously settled in Kentucky. Children: William Dorsey (1870-1892); Edmonia Catherine, (Aug. 25, 1871-); Margaret Magness (Oct. 20, 1874-), Martha Ellen (Aug. 26, 1875-); John Morgan (Jan 27, 1877-Dec. 10, 1878); Nancy Brooks (April 6, 1880-Feb. 6, 1944); and Elizabeth Brown (April 6, 1880- Mar. 16, 1914)(twins); Agatha Angeline (July 1, 1883-); Samuel (Nov. 28, 1887-) & Daniel (Nov. 28, 1887-)(twins); Thomas Dixon (June 15, 1891)and Emma Lee (Sept. 22, 1894).
