TRACEABLE TID-BITS
A particular obstacle in tracing our Highland Scot ancestry
is due to the repetitive naming of the children. Generally, the
rule was to name the oldest son after the father's father or the oldest
daughter after the father's mother, or was it the mother's mother!
Of course some families did not follow the same tradition, so one can
never be positive without documented evidence. Whatever the pattern, the end result was each new generation
carried the same few given names. One must be ever greatful
for the occasional Hanibal or Clementine instead or Mary, Sarah or Catherine.
This page has been designed in an attempt by the author to
assist the researcher in being fairly certain an ancestor
was in Richmond County before actually purchasing OUR NATIVE HEATH. In most cases
there is additional information concerning these folks
in the book.
