All signatures are copied directly from
original papers, most of which were used to
compile the contents of OUR NATIVE HEATH. A
few signatures are taken from Cumberland
County, NC records and will not appear in this
Richmond County book. Many documents were signed
over two hundred years ago with ink which has faded
drastically. In order to present recognizable signatures
it was necessary to 'computer enhance' many, taking
care not to change or distort the original flow of
the handwriting. This process involves the enlargement
of the writing and filling in the missing pixels which,
when joined together, form smooth legible lines.
