My dear Miss W:-

Now of one thing you may always be certain: when a young lady is ashamed for the people of Morganton to know that she writes to
me - I shall never write Mrs Ross or anyone else saying (pg-2) that she does. The point Mrs Ross probably had seized on in my
letter was that "no one ever writes to me nowadays from *Dunvegen." It makes one feel that I shall be very wiser of a
stranger when I come next to Morganton to hear of all the marriages and rib - breaking trists fis-ticuffs & S.S. changes. I am
afraid that even the dogs will not know me because ... The next page is missing.

*The name Dunvegan is scottish Gaelic for "small castle".
