My dear Mrs. Tate,
	How my heart bleeds for you! Ah! too well I know what this terrible blow must be to you 
for my only child is also flagman on the Southern Road, and I feel anxious all the time. No 
human comfort is of any avail at such a terrible time. I can only pray for you and the dear 
sisters and brothers that God may help you and strengthen your fire. My kindest love to Sue 
and the other girls and believe me yours in the deepest sympathy.
